Box Breathing: Anytime Nervous System Reset

WHAT TO EXPECT

Breathwork can be challenging. It is work after all. This can be especially true if our nervous system is habituated towards a more activated or “fight/flight” response. We may have a disjointed relationship with our breath. Today, we will be walking through a simple, and assesible breathing exercise called Box Breathing. This is a quick 3-minute practice that can be done at any point during your day! This guided practice will walk you through:

  • How to gently guide your attention to your breath

  • How to work with your breath in a way that calms down the nervous system or activates the parasympathetic nervous system (“rest/digest”)

  • How to mindfully notice sensations in your body and breath

Props: For this practice, you’ll need a comfortable, safe space to practice. You can be sitting in a chair, on a couch, or even laying on the ground.
